Good ob
servations from The Dabbler on the London-centric nature of all our political leaders. This was, in itself, a comment on the interesting piece by Simon Head in The Guardian about class and leadership with particular regard to the Coalition. Both make depressing reading, particularly if you were not born in the Home Counties to a white stockbroker/banker father.
On the up side, another feature in yesterday's Guardian, which compared all three "Oxbridge-educated white men in their 40s", highlighted how small apart God plays in any of their political thinking. Both Nick and Ed have said the don't believe in God while even David is a bit hit and miss. He's described his faith (CofE) as "a bit like the reception for Magic FM in the Chiltens: it sort of comes and goes."
Thinking about the crazy, bizarre things religion has done to politics in the past and the insanity of some of the politicians now claiming God is on their side, this has to be a good thing.
Hurrah for the white forty-something men - just this once.
